快乐与自尊密不可分。在任何时候,笑都可以帮助你建立自信,因为你知道,你能够用微笑来面对每天的挫败,而不是啼哭。

笑是一种很好的身体运动,可以锻炼心脏,促进血液循环,排除肺内的过量空气。最近的研究表明,一次捧腹大笑,会给身体带来一次小小的锻炼,这其实是在燃烧热量。

在视野狭窄的压力下,老师和学生都会感到过度紧张。但是笑可以预防像焦耳·古德曼博士所说的那种“态度僵化”。他还说,如果你在面对压力时表现僵硬,就会很容易失控。如果你精神灵活,那么当生活给你重击时,你就可以从容应对。每个人的弓都需要有规律地松弛,不然会因损坏而毫无用处。笑就可以缓解我们的弓。

笑可以缓解压力,这样就会有更多的时间和精力来进行学习和创作。老师和学生也会感到自由,鼓励发散思维和创造力。

Education is too important to take seriously。 When people take anything too seriously; they put on blinders which cause them to miss the important aspects of what is going on around them。 They develop “tunnel vision” which limits and distorts their perception of reality。 Education is too important to be limited by those who have chosen to wear blinders1 and develop tunnel vision。

I believe the accountability movement has encouraged many educators to take education too seriously。 When we take education too seriously; we put standardized test scores above children; we put lesson plans above teachers; and we put on our blinders; only to see a rather small segment of the child—that segment that can be measured easy—rather than looking at the child as a whole。 By looking at the whole student; we can get a sense of whether that student enjoys learning is functioning well with others; and feels good about himself。

How can we take off our blinders? How can we eliminate tunnel vision to see the whole child? How can we not take everything so seriously? My remendation is simple—laugh; teachers; laugh!

Psychologists have long believed that negative emotions cause negative chemical changes in the body。 We know the opposite is also true。 We know that a person with a good sense of humor has better healing qualities。 Laughter actually relaxes the muscles; slows the heartbeat; and lowers blood pressure。 Laugher stirs the inside and gets the endocrine2 system moving; which can be quite beneficial in alleviating disease。 Laughter also relieves boredom; tension; guilt; depression; headaches; and backaches。

Each time you chuckle or “crack up”; your brain releases the body’s natural pain…killing hormones。 Those hormones trigger the release of endorphines; natural opiates that can reduce pain。 These same hormones are responsible for making the eyes sparkle and getting the brain to work more eriectively。 Laughter can produce a great deal of relaxation。 When your body is relaxed; the vista broadens; and you can see things you were missing before。

Happiness and self…esteem are closely related。 Laughter will help you build your self…confidence at any given moment because you know that you can laugh rather than cry at daily frustrations。

Laughter is good general physical exercise。 It exercises the heart; improves circulation; and gets rid of excess air in the lungs。 Recent studies have shown that a good laugh provides a mini…workout for the body that actually burns up calories3。

Both teachers and students experience a great deal of stress while under the pressure of tunnel vision。 By the use of laughter; we prevent what Dr。 Joel Goodman calls “hardening of the attitudes。” He continues to say; “If you stand rigidly in the face of stress; you are much more easily knocked off balance。 If you are flexible mentally; you are in a much better position to roll with the punches that life throws you。” Everyone’s bow needs to be unstrung periodically; or it will bee useless。 Laughter unstrings our bow。

With the reduction of stress through laughter; there is more time and energy left to learn and create。 The teacher and students feel a freedom that encourages divergent thinking and creativity。
